About a month before writing this, I was on eBay searching for Virginia-themed items. I found numerous maps, some from the 2010s, the 2000s, and even as far back as the 1970s. However, there were also some older maps, so I decided to search for ones from before most current routes were created or placed on their current alignments.
It didn't take long to find one. I came across an official state highway map from 1941, during World War II, and it was at the low price of $12. I ended up buying it, and within a week, it had arrived at my home for me to open and look at.
While looking at the map, I decided that I could make some content on Hunty Roads about these former routes. Plus, I brought back this 4th Hunty Roads site so I could put this series and two other ones (coming soon!) that wouldn't fit anywhere else. So, Old Ways is officially now a part of the rotation, right on time for the 3 year anniversary of Hunty Roads.

What It's About:
This series will have Route Posts (like the VA site has had for 3 years), however with plenty of format changes. The 'My Experiences' section won't feature on this series, because how can I have been on a route that hasn't existed in almost 85 years?
'The Route Path' will be somewhat simpler, highlighting more of the intersections and locations than what it passed through and when it curved. There will also be a section showing what current routes the old route on a given post used. The opening paragraph will show when the route was created and eventually decommissioned.
There isn't a set schedule for when posts in this series will be released, but expect at least two (Old) Route Posts every month on this branch of the website.
Other Info:
Routes that currently exist won't be featured in this series, neither will routes that were renumbered into a modern route with generally the same form. Only routes that have been decommissioned and no longer exist will be featured here. So don't expect anything you know from 2025.
Finally, the first Route Post in this series (and any series here for that matter) is one that existed close to my home region in the 1930s and early '40s, being decommissioned just a couple years after the map I've used as reference was published, this route is/was VA-243, not to be confused with the current version of the route in Fairfax County.
