Old Ways - VA-243

 Former VA-243 was a route that went from a point north of an intersection with SR-604 and SR-633 in Amicus to an intersection with US 29 in Burtonville. The route was numbered as VA-243 in the 1933 renumbering from VA-719 and the route was decommissioned partly in 1942, before going away fully in 1943. The entire route was in Greene County for its existence.

The Route Path:

Former VA-243 started just north an intersection with SR-604 and SR-633 in the small community of Amicus, located in central Greene County. The route headed north for about 3 miles, entering the town of Stanardsville, where it reached an intersection with US 33 and VA-230.

VA-243 turned east along US 33/VA-230, with the latter leaving the concurrency not far east of where VA-243 joined it. Both remaining routes headed southeast out of Stanardsville, and 2 miles later, VA-243 turned east onto Fredericksburg Road to leave the concurrency.

The route headed northeast then east for 4 miles as it entered into the northeastern part of Greene County. Eventually, VA-243 reached its eastern end at an intersection with US 29. The road itself continued east as SR-609 through the rest of northeastern Greene County into Orange county before ending at an intersection with VA-20.

History:

The route was numbered as part of the 1933 renumbering, being renumbered from VA-719, which was created in 1930. The route had the same routing as when it became VA-243 from 1933 to 1942, when the part of the route along and south of US 33 was changed, with the concurrency being dropped and the section south of Stanardsville becoming secondary. In 1943, the remainder of VA-243 was downgraded to secondary, officially ending the route's first lifespan.

In 1960, a new VA-243 was created up north in Fairfax County, which still exists in 2025.

Current Route:

As of December 2025, these are the current routes that cover what used to be VA-243:

* SR-604
* SR-624
* SR-622
* US 33 Business
* F-1118
* SR-609

Other Facts:

* This is the most "recent" Primary Route that has been fully decommissioned in Greene County.

April 2025 Blog Update

 One day later than usual, this time in a move to not have the update published on April Fool's Day. This is a pretty short Blog Update, since the Hunty's Travel Chances section is absent, instead becoming a page on Hunty's Travels.

Another reason for the short update is there hasn't been any section-worthy updates to Hunty Roads. March has been a pretty lacking month, which I can honestly county as a semi-hiatus. Summer is getting closer, as it is Spring now, so hopefully I can take more trips, which motivates me to work on the website(s) more.

Blog Update Day Relocations

With this month's post being published on the 2nd rather than the 1st, I might start testing different days within the first week of the upcoming months to publish future Blog Updates. This could be the first Saturday of the month, maybe the 4th day of the month, or I'll revert it to the 1st day of each month if this experiment doesn't work.

Posts/Pages of March 2025

Not a very active month of March for Hunty Roads, but a month, nonetheless. This list shows the content I've published on Hunty Roads + Hunty's Travels in March:

VA Site:
VA Primary Route 174 (3/20)

Hunty's Travels (Converted from VA Site):

Next Post & Sendoff

The post on May 1st will come, don't worry. The length of it is something that I don't know yet, but likely there will be updates about something that will make the length longer than this one. Now for the fun fact of the month: The NB/SB lanes of I-85 in Davidson County, NC switch sides temporarily to serve the Davidson County Rest Area.

March 2025 Blog Update

It's officially been one year since the first Monthly Blog Post was published on March 1st, 2024. I've completed and published twelve posts since then on the 1st day of each month, and now I've decided to begin publishing them on this main site from here on out.

The previous twelve posts will still be accessible for viewing purposes, with the main access points coming from the main place where I advertise and announce Hunty Roads content (A thread I have on the AARoads Forum).

The layout of the next generation of Monthly Updates will be generally the same as the past couple of months, with the news and main updates being towards the top, followed by the main sections that have been around for months.

Now that this is an actual post on the home page of the main site, I'll have to put in the invisible line that blocks the contents of this post off unless you're on the post itself (just click the title) ....
